There are pollutants in the atmosphere
In the present system, you have to relate small masses to large masses by
subdivision. Just as the meter — once the length of a bar of platinum-iridium,
also kept in Paris — is now defined by the constant speed of light in a vacuum,
so a kilogram will be defined by a tiny but immutable fundamental value called
the "Planck constantâ€. Sometimes, it really needs a wash.
The problem is, the
"international prototype kilogram†doesn’t always weigh the same. The kilogram
has been defined since 1889 by a shiny piece of platinum-iridium held in Paris.
That’s very China
soft squishy toys gifts Manufacturer difficult - and the uncertainties build
up very, very quickly,†Robinson said."We live in a modern world.Just as the
meter — once the length of a bar of platinum-iridium, also kept in Paris — is
now defined by the constant speed of light in a vacuum, so a kilogram will be
defined by a tiny but immutable fundamental value called the "Planck
constantâ€.So, at the end of a week-long meeting in the Palace of Versailles,
Paris, the world’s leading measurement aficionados at the International Bureau
of Weights and Measures will vote on Friday to make an "electronic kilogram†the
new baseline measure of mass. But while the extra accuracy will be a boon to
scientists, Robinson said that, for the average consumer buying flour or
bananas, "there will be absolutely no change whatsoeverâ€.â€
What’s needed is
something more constant. So it’s not the best way, perhaps, of defining mass.
All modern mass measurements are traceable back to it - from micrograms of
pharmaceutical medicines to kilos of apples and pears and tonnes of steel or
cement. The new definition involves an apparatus called the Kibble balance, which
makes use of the constant to measure the mass of an object using a precisely
measured electromagnetic force.â€He said it had taken years of work to fine-tune
the new definition to ensure the switchover will be smooth.
One of the things
this (new) technique allows us to do is to actually measure mass directly at
whatever scale we like, and that’s a big step forward. The kilogram has been
defined since 1889 by a shiny piece of platinum-iridium held in Paris.Just as
the redefinition of the second in 1967 helped to ease communication across the
world via technologies like GPS and the internet, experts say the change in the
kilogram will be better for technology, retail and health - though it probably
won’t change the price of fish much. Even inside its three glass bell jars, it
gets dusty and dirty, and is affected by the atmosphere. But the whole process
of cleaning or handling or using the mass can change its mass."So when you just
get it out of the vault, it’s slightly dirty.
There are pollutants in the
atmosphere that can stick to the mass,†said Ian Robinson, a specialist in the
engineering, materials and electrical science department at Britain’s National
Physical Laboratory. (Representative Image: Pixabay) After years of nursing a
sometimes dusty cylinder of metal in a vault outside Paris as the global
reference for modern mass, scientists are updating the definition of the
kilogram.

Employees of Jet Airways have written to President
The unions highlighted that a section of employees have not been paid their
salaries on time for the last seven months and that the distressing situation
was also brought to the notice of the Ministry of Labour and Employment in
March.A day after the airline suspended operations, hundreds of employees had
gathered in the national capital seeking measures to revive the carrier, which
has been in operation for nearly 26 years.
The unions also flagged that air
ticket prices are "sky rocketing".Amid uncertainty over the future course of the

it is our humble plea to take this matter under your guidance for an immediate
action for the revival of the entire system," the letter said.
Cash-starved Jet
Airways, which has around 23,000 employees, has delayed payment of salaries to
the employees, including pilots. The outstanding amount for pilots and engineers
as of now is three months salary (full salaries for the months of January,
February and March), and for all other staff is one month's salary," the letter
said.Cash-starved Jet Airways, which has around 23,000 employees, has delayed payment of salaries to the employees, including pilots.
We have also realised
that along with our Jet Airways sinking, we are not only 23,000 employees who
will be affected directly but a number of people who are running business or are
associated with us some way or the other. In separate but similarly-worded
letters this week, the Society for Welfare of Indian Pilots (SWIP) and Jet
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Welfare Association (JAMEWA) have requested help
in clearing their outstanding salary dues.Noting that employees did their best
to keep up the highest standards of safety and professionalism in these trying
times, the grouping said non-payment of salaries is causing extreme hardships to
employees."We also urge you to expedite the process of emergency funding, as
every minute and every decision is very critical in these testing times," one of
the letters said.
We request you to consider the situation with the urgency it
deserves and direct the management of Jet Airways (India) Ltd to expeditiously
disburse all outstanding dues to affected employees.SWIP has around 1,200
members while JAMEWA represents more than 500 employees.. Passengers are already
facing the brunt of it," they said. Such a big airline going down will leave a

suspension of its operations on April 17 as it failed to receive emergency funds
from lenders."Even the shops at the airports are facing a lull.
Employees of Jet Airways have written to President Ram
Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking their intervention to
recover outstanding dues as well as to expedite the process of emergency funds

for Gallese, who was the # villain of that thumping by the hosts, gifting Brazil
their second goal by clearing the ball straight to Roberto Firmino, while he was
also partially at fault for the first and third scores. But in Salvador he
guessed the right way for the first shoot-out penalty to deny Barcelona forward

Uruguay burst into life on 15 minutes when Federico Valverde surged onto a loose

blocked by a sliding defender. In pouring rain, Uruguay looked set to take the
lead on 24 minutes with a rapier counter-attack, but Cavani ballooned the ball
into the sky from six yards after Gallese parried Suarez's shot, although it
wouldn't have counted as the Barcelona forward was retroactively deemed offside
when he received the ball.
Moments later Nandez headed over from six yards. De
Arrascaeta had the ball in the net on 28 minutes but that was chalked off for an
offside against Nandez.Peru finally created a worthy chance late in the first
half but Jose Gimenez made a stunning recovery tackle to deny Guerrero a
goalscoring chance. Up the other end, Gallese made himself big to block Cavani's
shot on the turn.Cavani and Suarez deniedGallese was called into action early in
the second period to punch out a dipping Valverde free-kick.Center-back Godin,

Cavani
appeared to have broken the deadlock just before the hour mark as he latched
onto a Suarez through ball and chipped Gallese, but he was pulled up for

minutes, but that too was ruled offside.Uruguay pushed hard late on but Peru
held out as Suarez failed to make contact with the ball when trying to lob
Gallese in the clearest chance.

The proposed relief package for Bundelkhand
The region, which comes into focus every year during the onset of monsoon season
as it has received inadequate rainfall and faced successive droughts over the
past decade, is under focus of the Centre. The formulation of the relief package
appears to be a step in that direction. New Delhi: The parched Bundelkhand
region which encompasses the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh and
also covers many districts of Madhya Pradesh — is likely to receive a relief
package from the Centre.
That committee had suggested a sum of Rs 304 crore to
be given for drought relief to Uttar Pradesh under National Disaster Relief Fund
(NDRF). Government think tank Niti Aayog has been asked to work out the
parameters of the package, which is likely to be announced soon, highly placed
sources said.According to highly-laced sources, a meeting of top Niti Aayog
officials is scheduled for April 12 to discuss the contours of the relief
package. In 2016 also when the region had faced drought, the Prime Minister had
formed a high level committee under chairmanship of home minister Rajnath Singh
to look into the relief China jumbo

The proposed relief package
for Bundelkhand is likely to focus on providing monetary relief to farmers in
the region owing to crop losses which they have suffered over the years. How much
significance the Narendra Modi-led NDA regime attaches to the region could be
gauged from the fact that in February this year he had announced a defence
industrial corridor for Bundelkhand which would link Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi and
Chitrakoot belts and bring in investments worth `20,000 crore there as well as
employment opportunities.
This time though the Centre seems to have begun its
preparations well in advance to mitigate the losses of farmers of the region.
